I had lunch here today and was really impressed. The food was high quality and the flavors were outstanding! There’s a wide variety of dishes on the menu—many of which I haven’t seen at other South Indian restaurants. It was refreshing to try something new. I drove about an hour to get here, and I’d say it was well worth the trip. I’m already looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu. If you’re looking for South Indian food that goes beyond the usual offerings, this place is definitely worth checking out.

Simply South has been a fixture in Irving for a while now. I've dined there for lunch, and honestly, their lunch offerings are pretty standard compared to other vegetarian restaurants in the area. However, this review is specifically about their tiffin menu, especially for dinner. One thing I've consistently observed at Simply South is their consistency in tiffin dishes. I've tried various items, and the ones that really stand out are the Benne Dosa and Tatte Idli, both generously served with butter or ghee. During this particular visit, we ordered Masala Dosa, Veg. Noodles, and Sweet Corn Soup (a kid's choice). The potato masala in the dosa was good. However, the sambar served with the dosa isn't your typical Madras sambar. An ideal Madras sambar should be rich with vegetable flavors, the soul of dal, and the aroma of good sambar powder (some use freshly roasted and ground coriander, but it's mostly the sambar powder and asafoetida that provide that distinct fragrance). Simply South's sambar is a 50-50 effort and frankly, not one of the best. The same goes for their chutneys. While they offer variety like peanut and mirchi chutney, they lack that true element of relish you expect from South Indian chutneys. We wrapped up our meal with a Lemon Soda and their unique "Simply Southy" Goli Soda, both of which were satisfactory. Overall, I'd rate my dinner at Simply South somewhere between a 3.5 and 4. Since Google doesn't allow fractional ratings, I'm rounding it up to 4/5

Simply South is one of the busiest spots in town, often with a 45-minute wait on weekends—so plan ahead! The food is absolutely superb and bursting with flavor. Their chutneys and sambhar are hands-down the best I’ve had in all of Dallas, and I’ve tried many. The Tandoori Veggie Chaaps are a must-try—it’s now my son’s favorite! However, the service is below average and the cleanliness leaves much to be desired. It’s understandable that weekends are hectic, but this aspect is quite disappointing. Despite that, the place thrives purely because of its unbeatable, authentic taste. If they improve their service and cleanliness, it would take the dining experience to another level.

Simply South is a must-visit for authentic Indian food in Dallas. I arrived at 11 AM and was surprised to see other guests already seated. I started with the malai chaap appetizer—soft and served within 10 minutes—but the quick turnaround made me suspect it was frozen and reheated instead of being actually cooked in a tandoor, so I’d skip that if you’re after a truly authentic experience. I also tried the chhole bhature, which looked different from the menu picture. The dish came with what resembled puri instead of the expected two fluffy bhature, though both puri and chhole were good. The Rava masala dosa and ghee roast were outstanding, offering a perfect balance of flavor and generous portions. For a unique twist, I sampled the jackfruit biryani—a definite must-try with a surprisingly delightful taste—and the filter coffee turned out to be a real stealer. Though the food mostly impressed, the overall experience was marred by lapses in service and maintenance. I had to ask multiple times for silverware, the chutney stand was falling apart, and the restrooms were not well maintained—with one of the two sink faucets out of order. Additionally, the gulab jamun and rabri dessert were overly sweet, seemingly made with syrup and milkmaid instead of the balanced blend they typically offer. Overall, I recommend Simply South for its flavorful offerings, but considering that within just a year we are already seeing maintenance issues, I’m concerned about their ability to sustain service quality in the long run.

First Impressions: They have an extensive menu. However it lacks clarity (some items need descriptions and there's incorrect labeling). We also saw the menu had Food spots which ruined our first impressions. Pros: - Food was delicious, their in house goli soda was great. - Fast service Cons: - We were a party of 8 and were seated at the big marble table. We were not able to hear anything and passing food is a big hassle. For this reason, communication becomes very difficult here - Not adequately trained staff (they're nice but lack experience on how to attend customers)
